Since January 2025, hundreds of people across the UK and now globally have claimed to have seen this British lad in dreams, on buses, in reflections, or during moments of déjà vu.
No one knows who he is. He doesn't speak. He simply stares. Some say he is a messenger. Others say he is a warning.
“This British Lad” is not real. What you’ve found is part of a campaign called Restore Closet Land.
The campaign is working to secure a digital restoration and re‑release of the 1991 film Closet Land, directed by Radha Bharadwaj. The film is regarded as bold and visually striking, and examines authoritarianism, psychological violence, trauma, and resilience of the human spirit. Still it remains largely inaccessible.
The goal is to urge decision‑makers, particularly Universal Studios, to restore the film for streaming, physical media, and access in film studies. Restoration is seen not just as preserving a work of art, but rescuing an underheard artistic legacy.
As the petition states, “once seen, it’s never forgotten,” and supporters hope that by gathering signatures, they can build momentum toward a broader public release.
If that resonates with you, please sign the petition and spread the word. Some stories deserve to return.
